Herbosch-Kiere Marine Contractors Ltd was appointed by Ports of Jersey Ltd to carry out specialist marine works at Elizabeth Marina in St Peter, Jersey. The project involved the removal of the marina’s storm gate, its transportation to New North Quay for inspection and cleaning, and the execution of an underwater survey of the gate entrance and associated mechanical systems.
The 200-tonne barge Antigoon was mobilised to the marina one day prior to the lifting operation and fully prepared within the confined marina environment. Divers rigged the 55-tonne storm gate, which was successfully lifted during high tide to ensure safe clearance. Following removal, the gate was transported to New North Quay and placed onto a purpose-built trestle unit.
A detailed inspection was then carried out to determine whether the storm gate could be repaired or if full replacement was required. Herbosch-Kiere subsequently provided Ports of Jersey Ltd with a comprehensive report outlining findings and technical recommendations.
