Sirena Seaways incident recovery & removal

Herbosch-Kiere Marine Contractors Ltd was appointed by Harwich International Ports to carry out recovery and removal works at Berth 3, following damage to port infrastructure caused by a vessel incident. The damage rendered the berth unusable and required the safe removal of several major marine structures.

The works included the recovery and disposal of the collapsed linkspan, dolphins, footbridge, and the linkspan’s supporting pontoon, which had been concreted into the seabed during original construction. The 600-tonne heavy lift shear leg vessel Enak was deployed to lift the linkspan from the water, after which it was transported to a quay at Felixstowe Port for dismantling and waste processing.

The embedded pontoon was removed using a large cutter mounted on a spud barge, allowing for controlled separation from the seabed. The project was completed safely and efficiently, demonstrating Herbosch-Kiere’s capability in complex marine recovery and heavy lift operations within active port environments.
