Harwich RNLI Replacement Pontoon
RNLI Harwich lies opposite Felixstowe, the largest commercial port in the UK and is one of the busiest coastal lifeboat stations. The harbour and surrounding beaches are very popular, particularly among the yachting, powerboating and jet skiing communities.
The station has two lifeboats, the all-weather Severn class Albert Brown and the inshore B class Atlantic 75 Sure and Steadfast.
Herbosch Kiere MC Ltd, were awarded the contract for the removal of the old RNLI pontoon and the installation of a new more tenable pontoon (the new pontoon was re-positioned so that the berth of the lifeboat would be less affected by weather). The Waasland set to work was used for the removal of the old piles before installing the new mooring piles, each at 26m in length and 762mm dia.
